Some of you have probably noticed that every post on my website is gone. And some of you are wondering because you care. Some because you’re curious. Some because people love a good story when it isn’t happening to them.
The truth is… I don’t even know why I’m writing anymore.
I started this blog because I felt invisible. I felt like I had no voice. Like I was screaming at the top of my lungs and no one could hear me. Every post was me trying to put words to the pain that I couldn’t keep carrying by myself.
I’ve spent my whole life protecting other people. Protecting their feelings. Protecting their reputations. Protecting their image. Protecting their secrets.
But who has ever protected me?
Who has ever stopped and asked how their words affected me? How their actions affected me? How constantly being dismissed, blamed, ignored, abandoned, or misunderstood slowly changed the way I see myself?
I’ve spent days carrying a weight that feels impossible to explain. But if I’m honest, this weight didn’t start this week. It didn’t even start this year.
I’ve carried it since I was a little girl.
Somewhere along the way, I learned that my feelings were inconvenient. That my emotions were too much. That if someone hurt me, somehow I’d end up apologizing for being hurt or how I reacted to it.
People don’t wake up one day believing they’re unworthy of love.
They’re taught.
They’re taught by being ignored. By being blamed. By being abandoned. By having their pain explained away instead of comforted. By constantly hearing, directly or indirectly, that everyone else’s feelings matter more than theirs.
I’ve reached a point where I want to tell everything.
Every lie. Every betrayal. Every moment I begged to be heard. Every time I reached out for help. Every time I was told I was the problem instead of someone asking why I was hurting.
Sometimes I want to write every name.
Not because I want revenge. But because I’m desperate for someone—anyone—to finally believe me. To hear me.
Do you know what emotional abuse does to a person?
It doesn’t just hurt. It changes you. It makes you question your own reality. It makes you wonder if you’re actually the problem. It makes you apologize for crying. It makes you feel guilty for having needs. It convinces you that asking to be loved, respected, or treated with kindness is somehow asking for too much.
I’ve reached out for help more times than I can count. I reached out hoping someone would see me. Hoping someone would ask if I was okay. Hoping someone would protect me the way I was always protecting everyone else.
Sometimes people helped in the ways they knew how. Sometimes they didn’t. Sometimes I walked away feeling even more alone than I did before I asked. Some added to the abuse instead of helping me escape it. Whether it was emotional, physical, or financial, the hurt didn’t stop when I asked for help. In some cases, it got worse.
There’s a different kind of heartbreak that comes from finally finding the courage to tell someone you’re drowning, only to feel like they handed you another weight to carry.
That’s the part people don’t see.
They see someone struggling. They don’t see how many times that person begged to be heard before they finally went quiet.
People love to say “tough love.” But love doesn’t leave someone bleeding emotionally and call it a lesson.
Love is patient.
Love is kind.
Love listens.
Love comforts.
Love doesn’t abandon someone and then tell them it’s for their own good.
As Christians, we point to Jesus as our example.
Jesus didn’t walk past hurting people because they weren’t perfect.
He stepped toward them.
He saw them.
He listened.
He loved them.
So maybe I’m removing my blog because I’m tired.
Tired of screaming.
Tired of trying to explain my pain.
Tired of wondering why the people who said they loved me could watch me fall apart and still make me feel like I deserved it.
The hardest part isn’t even what happened.
The hardest part is wondering if anyone will ever truly hear me.
Because right now…
I just want someone to tell me that my feelings matter.
That my experiences matter.
That my voice matters.
That I matter.
Maybe one day I’ll put the posts back. Maybe one day I’ll write the whole story. Or maybe one day I won’t need strangers on the internet to hear me because the people who said they loved me finally will.
Until then…
I’m trying to figure out how to believe that my voice has value, even when the people closest to me have spent a lifetime making me question whether it ever did.
Love always,
Kelsey
